The early morning shower did not deter Da Ma Cai staff volunteers from reaching out to the needy at Malaysia Lotus Charity Care Centre Association (MLCCCA) through its Staff-In-The-Community programme.
To kick-off the Programme for the day, the team took the initiative to shop for electrical appliances and daily necessities before visiting MLCCCA located at Semenyih, Selangor. MLCCCA started as an old folks home in 2001 with 7 elderly people. Over the years MLCCCA grew in size and currently looks after 25 senior citizens of over 50 years old and 26 children aged between 1 and 17 years old.
Upon arrival, Brother Michael, the caretaker of MLCCCA showed the staff volunteers around the Centre and introduced some of the residents. The staff volunteers spent half day engaging with the children and old folks at the Centre, before hosting a buffet lunch for them.
In the spirit of giving, RM4,500 vouchers were also presented to MLCCCA to purchase groceries for the Centre’s daily use and learning materials to encourage the children to study. The donation had lightened their financial burden.
“Our place was burned down in February last year and we lost all essential items. It has been tough to keep the Centre running, but thanks to many well-wishers, we are able to go on providing to the residents here. We really appreciate Da Ma Cai for today’s warm-hearted gestures,” said Brother Michael.
“Now we are also able to get more learning materials such as revision and exercise books for the children with the vouchers donated to us. One of our many focuses is the need and importance of education for our children as we want to see our children grow towards success,” he added.
Speaking about the initiative, one of the Da Ma Cai staff volunteers said, “We are happy to be part of this meaningful Programme as it is our passion to support and help those in needs.”
In February 2016, a massive fire burned down part of the Centre, forcing the residents to evacuate the premise. The blaze also destroyed most of the donated food and necessities items. Currently, the Centre is relying solely on public funding to meet their expenses. For enquiries and donation, please contact Brother Michael at 016 – 627 7239.
