In the spirit of giving and foster closer ties with the communities where it operates, Da Ma Cai volunteer staff members bring Deepavali joy to the underprivileged families of Jalan Sentul, Kuala Lumpur through the Staff-in-the-Community programme.
As part of this programme, a total of 7 low-income Hindu families receive financial aid worth RM7,000 with each family receive a whopping RM1,000 shopping vouchers in preparation for the upcoming Deepavali festive celebration. The families could not contain their excitement when they were told they had a free hand to choose their own items including clothing and groceries.
Jayapregasam Ramiah, 54, looked at the cash vouchers that was just handed to him and was already thinking how best to spend the money for his family.
“This is a blessing, and I will spend it wisely,” he said.
“My children will have good food and nice clothes, it is certainly a celebration to look forward to this Deepavali,” said Banu Nadaraja, a single mother, while receiving the aid.
After the presentation of aid, the families were treated to a scrumptious lunch where Da Ma Cai volunteers had a whale of time interacting with the families.
In conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations this year, Da Ma Cai also donated a total of RM118,000 to 25 charity organisations in the country. The financial contribution is to support the sustainability and development of services for the needy and marginalised such as disabled persons, elderly persons, orphans and those with social problems. Among the beneficiary organisations were the Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam, Shan Children’s Home, Sri Ramakrishna Ashram and Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah. Each organisation was given between RM3,000 to RM8,000.
