In the spirit of giving and foster closer ties with the communities where it operates, Da Ma Cai volunteer staff members bring Deepavali joy to Divine Life Society Malaysia Branch (DLS) at Batu Caves through the Staff-in-the-Community programme.
As part of this programme, DLS received a whopping financial aid worth RM9,000 for the upcoming Deepavali festive celebration. The aid, in the form of shopping vouchers will be used to assist 31 low-income Hindu families for the purchase of basic necessity such as rice, flour, oil and dhall.
The President of DLS, Swami Swayamjayananda together with his committee members and volunteers could not contain their joy when they were told they are receiving Da Ma Cai aid during this festive season.
“It is certainly a celebration to look forward to this Deepvali, and it will definitely help reducing the burden for DLS,” he said.
“This is a blessing, as the fund will not just be used for Deepavali; in fact, it will help last for at least a good 3 months,” said Ms Ananthi Sivandan, Honorary Secretary of DLS.
Founded in 1953 with a humble beginning at the foothills of Batu Caves, the DLS is a non-profit organisation offering selfless service to the community and foster a caring society among all Malaysians.
Among the charitable programmes to serve the community are free medical outpatient clinic (Kinik Sivananda), orphanage homes (Sivananda Home), pre-school education (Tadika Sivananda) ), computer classes, youth motivation & educational programs, yoga classes and supply of monthly food provisions to selected poor and needy families.
