More than 30 children from the House of Love in Klang spent the day outdoors at the GK Organic Farm getting a unique hands-on learning experience.
The educational day out was part of Da Ma Cai’s Staff-in-the-Community Programme, a corporate social responsibility initiative that encourages volunteerism among its employees and giving back to society.
During the trip, the volunteers, House of Love caretakers and children learnt about environmental conservation and the positive effects of organic farming.
The guided farm tour started with a visit to key areas of the farm including the planting, composting and beekeeping sections.
The children got to plant and harvest crops like a farmer as well as learn how to appreciate nature.
Besides the farm tour, fun fames and activities such as enzyme-making were also held.
After the activities, the children were treated to a delicious local and fusion buffet prepared from farm fresh organic produce.
“We learnt about the different stages of growth from seeding to harvesting and will now incorporate these sustainable methods into our own organic farming project,” said House of Love manager Abel Tan.
“We enjoyed getting away from the hustle and bustle with this trip to the farm, “said Da Ma Cai volunteer Saras Subramaniam.
The food and fun activities set against the quaint backdrop of the quiet Kampung Sungai Buah countryside made this a memorable learning experience for the children and volunteers.
Da Ma Cai also presented grocery and stationery shopping vouchers worth RM5,000 to House of Love to lighten the burden of the children home.
